About Us

London WRG helps restoration in a practical way by running regular volunteer opportunities called weekend 'digs', usually every 3 weeks, on the canals mainly in the South of England, but also further afield to the Midlands. The work they do is very varied - including brick laying, scrub bashing, demolition and use of plant. No experience is necessary - you just need to be willing to get involved and have fun!

Most of their members come from London and the Home Counties, and they offer minibus transport to digs, usually leaving Waterloo Station at about 7pm on Friday evenings. We do ask for a voluntary contribution towards fuel costs, with a maximum of £10. They welcome anyone to join them, wherever they live. Pick up from a train station nearer to the dig is also possible.

Overnight accommodation is usually the local village hall, or similar. Food is provided at cost price, usually about £10 per weekend.

London WRG have a pre dig social 11 days before, meeting in the Rose and Crown, 47 Colombo Street, London, SE1 8DP. All welcome, whether or not you are going on the dig. Please ring Tim Lewis to confirm, before you go. Full list of drink dates on dig dates page, along with Tim's number.
