Introduction to Building Bridges
The Building Bridge's Projects aims to enable volunteers to carry out minor (and some more major) repairs to canal bridges in desperate need of restoration ... giving local people and communities the chance to come together and look after a structure on a section of canal or waterway.
Could you get involved?
Yes, if you are a volunteer, an organisation such as a community group or charity, wanting to get your hands dirty, learn new skills and help restore a waterway bridge back to its former glory. These pages will guide you through many of the main issues to be aware of when organising and carrying out restoration work.
The Waterway Recovery Group and Canal & River Trust will help you plan and deliver work in accordance with the necessary legislation and good practice relating to safety, heritage, environment and volunteering.
"This is a superb way for the wider waterways community to get involved with more complex and ambitious projects."
