The annual Festival of Water is coming to Ilkeston over the 2017 August Bank Holiday Weekend and over 110 boats will be moored along the Erewash Canal.
Saturday - 10am - 6pm
Sunday - 10am - 6pm
Monday - 10am - 5pm
Gallows Inn Playing Fields, Ilkeston, DE7 5BP. See the exact location here.
There is music and dance in the Entertainments Marquee throughout the day. Bands including The Bonito Sisters, Mick and the Moonshiners and Bon Accord will entertain the gathered crowds with popular, jazz and folk music from 10.30am through to the Festival close.
We have a one man band roving the site and Shreck the Boat Horse is keen to meet anyone who wants to know more about how boats moved along the canals during the Industrial Revolution.
As you enter the Playing fields you will be met with a collection of vintage cars and buses and around 120 narrowboats and trailboats will be moored along the towpath - many decked with bunting, lights and flags.
Erewash Sound are coming to the Show as are plenty of craft and food stalls.
Wander the Festival and finish up by the Real Ale Bar which is run by waterways volunteers and take your pick from the wide selection of food.
There is water zorbing and carz of fun. Children can hold birds of prey and perhaps a reptile plus on Sunday and Monday have a go at fishing during our taster sessions.
Suggest to your children that they pick up a passport from the WOW (Wild over Waterways) stand and as they roam the site collect stamps from the various stalls and games. Once the passport is complete there is a prize for all participants.
If your child thinks they might "dig canals" in the future they should have a go on the Waterway Recovery Group "Drive a Digger" session. The session is free.
Parking is free and the postcode is DE7 5BP.
Or why not come by train? Ilkeston's newly opened train station is a 30 minute walk away, much of it along the newly refurbished towpath. Click here for the timetable. For information on the route to take from the train station take a look at our Getting to the festival page.
