Grand Union Canal - Leicester Line


The Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal runs from Norton Junction on the main line of the Grand Union Canal to the River Soar Navigation at West Bridge in Leicester.  The Canal is 41.2 (66.5 km) miles long and has 41 locks.  There are arms to:
Welford (1.6 miles - 2.6 km - 1 lock - joins at Welford Junction) and
Market Harborough (5.5 miles - 7.7 km - no locks - joins at Foxton Junction).

The maximum size of boat that can navigate from Market Harborough to Leicester is
length: 79' 1" (24.1 metres) - St Mary's Mill Lock
beam: 14' 9" (4.5 metres) - Aylestone Mill Arch Bridge
height: 7' 0" (2.13 metres) - Kings Lock Arch Bridge
draught: 4' 5" (1.35 metres) - cill of St Mary's Mill Lock
Between Norton Junction and Foxton Junction the canal is narrow
beam: 7' 0" (2.13 metres) - Watford Locks and Foxton Locks
