WRG BITM normally has a working party once a month.

We will be removing fallen trees from the Bray Cut.  This is a side stream of the Thames, and is being restored to enable navigation through the middle of Maidenhead.  We have about 400m to clear, including 10 major obstructions.  (More than enough for two weekends…see also 18th & 19th November)

This time we’ll be working downstream of the Bailey Bridge, towards the M4.  Access is easier than usual – we can park in the field right next to where we’re working.  Teams pulling on ropes will be needed, as well as Tirfor winch teams – there’s loads of stuff to clear before we can get at the bigger stuff.  No bonfires – everything is to be stacked on the bank (unless you have a desire to take any logs home…)  Chainsaw operators needed.   Canoes would be useful if anyone can bring one.

Accommodation is booked at the Scout Hall in Clewer, on the outskirts of Windsor for Friday and Saturday nights (work on Saturdays and Sundays).  Shower available.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
